We’re only here on planet Earth for a limited amount of time. But a lot of people carry on as if they have forever to achieve their objectives. And that’s a problem. You can get to the end of your life not having achieved the things that you wanted to do.
In this post, we take at the various ways you can ensure that you NEVER waste your time. By the end of it, you’ll have a much better idea for how to manage it – and the ways you might be wasting it right now.
Treat Time As Precious
What’s the only thing you can’t buy more of? The answer, arguably, is “time.”
No matter what you do or how much money you make, you’re still limited in how long you have here on planet Earth. And there’s not a great deal that you can do about it.
Recognizing that your time is precious, however, is the first step that you can take for a more fulfilling and meaningful life. You have to have a certain level of “self-love” to come to this realization. But once you achieve it, you’re suddenly much kinder to yourself. You’re much more likely to avoid relationships and careers that drain you and take you away from what’s important in your life.
Outsource Your Chores
Nobody wants to spend their precious time cleaning the kitchen or taking out the trash. It detracts from your quality of life and makes it challenging for you to pursue projects. It’s certainly not the minimalist approach.
The good news is that you don’t actually have to waste time on chores. Getting bin hire or maid services frees up your weekends to pursue however you want.
This same advice applies equally if you run a business. Is it really worth your time spending your Friday nights doing invoicing? Or would it be better to simply outsource it to an accounting company for a small fee? Almost always, it’s the latter.
Think About Your Priorities
What is it that you really want out of your life? Is it the struggle itself? Or is it that proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?
The answer you give will very much depend on the person you are. But you need to have your priorities sorted if you want to avoid wasting your life.
Some people live “for themselves.” For them, playing video games in the evening is okay because that’s their enjoyment. It’s what makes it worthwhile working so hard during the day.
Other people live to complete some grand project like curing a disease, entertaining people, or creating beautiful art. Again, time is precious here because you want to avoid spending it doing other things, such as doing chores in your home or working in a career that doesn’t make you feel fulfilled.
Once you’ve done this, the last step is to take notes of how you’re spending your time right now. You might think you’re using it efficiently, but there could be substantial gaps in your day when you’re not working towards your goals.
