Things to do in and around Liverpool this christmas

With November well and truly underway, Christmas decorations appearing, festive songs starting to play and John Lewis releasing their highly anticipated Christmas advert, it’s hard to believe it but the big day will soon her here.

In my opinion the Christmas build up starts too early but I do like to get in the festive spirit by visiting markets and other events in the local area. Living in-between Chester and Liverpool means I’m not stuck for options when it comes to things to do, not just at Christmas but all year round. For anyone who lives near Liverpool or is planning a trip over the festive period, I thought I would put together a few ideas of things that with give you all the Christmas feels.

Liverpool Ice Festival

Now located on the Pier Head, Liverpool Ice Festival plays host to a number of Christmas activities. Ice skating, ice slide, Christmas markets and an ice bar are just some of the few things you can expect to find near the famous Liver buildings.

If you’ve never been to the Ice Festival before then there are plenty of transport methods. If you’re travelling by train the James Street station is just a few minutes’ walk away and there are a number of secured car parks to choose from, if travelling by car is your preferred choice.

The Lanterns at Chester Zoo

Running from 24th November to 30th December, the lantern walk is a magical experience that takes place after closing hours when the night sky arrives. I’d heard people talk about the event and decided to book tickets last year. The Lantern Walk takes you on a journey around certain parts of the Zoo, where you can expect to see animal lanterns and also lanterns that are brought to life by talented performers.

With a range of times available to book tickets and the chance to meet Father Christmas and visit the gift shop, The Lanterns at Chester Zoo is a magical experience for the whole family.

Cheshire Reindeer Lodge

Located close to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, Cheshire Reindeer Lodge is one of the best ways to get in the Christmas spirit. Most Christmas events have similar market stalls, fairground rides and the option to meet Father Christmas, but here you can actually meet real life Reindeer, as well as an Elf stage show, photo opportunities and a gift shop. All of this providing an extra special experience this Christmas.

Cheshire Reindeer lodge is open 7 days a week in the build up to Christmas and tickets need to be booked before your visit to the lodge.

Chester Christmas Markets

The historic city of Chester has slowly been improving their Christmas Markets and is a great place to walk around whilst browsing the stalls and sipping on your favourite festive drink. Found in the heart of Chester City centre, visiting the markets also allows you to also explore other sights and activities the city has to offer.

With a great choice of restaurants, bars, shops and beautiful scenery, Chester is a great place to visit all year round.
